The group 6 Martini Porsche of Jacky Ickx and Gijs van Lennep leads an Inaltera past the pits complex during the night. Using the 2.14 litre turbo-charged engine, the model 936 started from pole position for the 44th Grand Prix d'Endurance and led from start to finish. Ickx recorded his third Le Mans victory with van Lennep taking his second; it was also the first victory for a turbo-charged car. -
Clay Regazzoni was the outstanding driver at Long Beach on the occasion of the United States Grand Prix West; achieving fastest time in practice and leading the race from start to finish.
